Bye-bye facial fuzz
If you’ve ever felt self-conscious about those pesky chin hairs or lip moustache, you’re not alone.
Unwanted facial hair can be a real confidence buster and affects women of all ages. Removing it not only gives you your confidence back but can also make makeup application smoother and more flawless.
Whether it’s a few stray strands or a ‘bit more’, there’s a perfect removal method for everyone. Below are some of the ways that you can keep your face smooth and fuzz free.
Tweezing is a classic method for a reason. It’s precise and perfect for small areas like your eyebrows or occasional stray chin hairs. “Tweezing is great for getting that perfect brow shape, but it can be a bit uncomfortable and time-consuming if you have a lot of hair to remove and it can be hard to get all those under the chin hairs.
“For best results hold the skin tight and pluck in the direction of hair growth. And remember to sterilise your tweezers before use.”
These creams break down hair just below the skin’s surface, making them a quick and painless option, but they often contain harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin especially the delicate skin on the face. Always do a patch test first to avoid any irritation or allergy and follow the instructions on the package carefully.
Dermaplaning uses a scalpel to gently scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz. This option has very split down the middle opinions, some people love it and some would never consider it. It's a personal choice but it is definitely best done by a professional to avoid nicks and cuts. Results vary and can last around 1 - 2 weeks.
Waxing pulls hair out from the root using wax strips or hot wax, leaving skin smooth for up to four weeks.
This is our favourite way here at Illuminated Skin of removing facial hair. We use a special Lycon facial wax especially designed for the delicate skin on the face. It can even remove the smallest of hairs. It is quick and pain free. The lip area is the only area that can be a little uncomfortable as there are more nerves above your lip then other parts of the face but its over in a few seconds. Results are instant and there is no down time.
We would always advise to stop acids in the days before waxing ,especially retinol and salicylic acid.
Threading uses a twisted cotton thread to pull out hair from the root, making it a common option for shaping eyebrows. It’s very precise, doesn’t involve chemicals and results can last for 4 weeks. Threading can be a little uncomfortable. Seek out a professional to do this which would be quicker and less painful than DIY attempts. 😉
Laser hair removal uses light to target and destroy hair follicles, offering long-term results. It requires multiple sessions to achieve the desired result and follow up appointments to keep the desired result. We would advise that you consult a laser expert to access your skin and hair as not all laser machines are suitable for all hair and skin types.
Shaving isn’t just for men. It’s quick and easy, but the results are short-term. Razor nicks and cuts are not pretty, and stubble regrowth is often a problem. We would never recommend women to use a shaver on their face, you will get stubble.
There you have it. Each hair removal method has its own perks and quirks. It’s all about finding one what works best for your skin and hair type. Remember, we’re always here for a chat for personalised advice.
